Welcoming words by the dean

It seems that it has never been more important to possess the knowledge about other cultures and languages, especially English. The European Union has set it as an eligible cultural goal that every European has to master at least two foreign languages, out of which one should be the language of a neighboring country. The ancient cultures and people have left us numerous sage proverbs about the significance and importance of knowing foreign languages. One of them tells us that as many languages you know, as many times you are a human being. Our faculty of Philology has responsibly started this significant mission, and has started with English language and anglo-american culture. We are offering you a responsible and organized philological knowledge from the area of anglo-american studies which is in accordance with all the modern criteria and methods and with the possibility of fulfilling individual needs for the use of additional materials from other areas. Therefore, we have prepared for our students a number of challenging elective courses.

Nowadays, knowledge and power go hand in hand, and it was beautifully predicted by Francis Bacon, the greatest figure of the Elizabethan period and also Shakespeare’s contemporary, when he said: “Studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability”.
